Sunil Gavaskar is an Indian cricket player. His full name is Sunil Manohar Gavaskar
(Born 10th July 1949) He was playing cricket for Bombay cricket team and India in the 1970s and 1980s. He is one of the greatest opening batsmen in the cricket history. He is a first and original little master for India in his career. He set the world records during his career for the most test runs and test centuries.
His batting technique was so good against the fast bowling. He played well against West Indies. His captaincy was not successful. He serves his country with their amazing batting. In 2012 Sunil was awarded the Col Ck Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for the cricket in India.
In 2014 Supreme Court of India, appointed him as the Interim BCCI president for the 7th season of IPL.

Domestic debut

The Great Sunil Gavaskar

He born in Mumbai and growing up in his city. He was named as Indian Best Schoolboy Cricketer of the year in 1966. He scored 246,222 and 85 in the school cricket in the final year of secondary education. He was striking the century against the touring London schoolboys. The first time he was playing Vazir Sultan Colts X1 in the first-class. He selected in the Indian team in 1970/1971 for the tour of West Indies.

Test debut

He debuts in the test in 1970/1971. After missing the first test match, Gavaskar scored 61 and 67 in the 2nd test against West Indies. The first time India won the test match due to Gavaskar hitting the winning runs. In the 3rd test match, Gavasker followed this first century, 116 and 64 and 1 and 117 in the 4th test match. He scored 124 and 220 in the 5th test match. Due to this score, India won first ever series over the West Indies. He is the first Indian to who hits more than 700 runs on the show. And 774 runs with an average of 154.80 remains the record in a debut series by any batsman.
In 1978-79 India tour to Pakistan after the arch rivals. The first time Gavaskar faced Pakistani pace bowlers.
Gavaskar scored 89 runs in the 1st test and 97 in the 2nd, which India drew and lost respectively.
Gavaskar scored 111 and 137 in the 3rd test match. But his score did not save the game. Gavaskar had finished the series with 447 runs at 89.40. The great Imran Khan describe as “the most compact batsman I have bowled to”.

Gavaskar was captain of the Indian team on several times in the late of 1970s and early 1980s.
But his record was not good in the captaincy. In his captaincy team was not doing well. Most of the matches were the draw. First, he charged the captaincy against the West Indies tour to India for six test series.
Kapil Dew changed him.

Over Bradman’s test record

In his 95th test match, Gavaskar hits the 29 century and equaling Don Bradman’s world record. He is also passed 8000 test runs in the innings. He was personally awarded by Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India at the ground.

International farewell

Gavaskar is a wonderful player. He hits many centuries in his career.
In 1985-86, India tour toured to Australia. All Indian team was unable to perform well against Australia.
But Gavaskar scored an unbeaten 166 in the 1st test and 172 in the 3rd, ending the series with 352 runs at 117.33.

Gavaskar was also an excellent slip fielder. He was also best slip fielder.
Due to his safe catching in the slips helped him to become 1st Indian (excluding wicket-keepers). He takes over 100 catches in the test matches. In the early days of his career, he opened the bowling for the short of a spell. The only wicket claimed by him is that of Zaheer Abbass.

While Sunil Gavaskar was not a big hitter but he had an ability to keep the scoreboard on with his some late flick. His style of batting was not suited able for limited over matches that why he scored only one century.

• He is the only player who hits more than 1000 runs in a calendar year four times.

• He was named one of the best cricketers of the year in 1980.
• He is the only player who made the 58-century partnership with 18 players.
• He is the only cricketer who has scored the most runs by any player in a series (774) against West Indies.

Personal Life

Sunil is a Brahmin. He got married to Marshhneil, who is the daughter of the industrialist in Kanpur. Rohan is his son, and he is also a cricketer. His son was also played cricket for India.
In 1966, he was Indian Best Schoolboy Cricket of the year.
