Varicose Veins Home Remedies

Six Varicose Veins Home Remedies You Might Find In Your Own Kitchen

Varicose veins refer to the bulging, widened, and twisted veins under the skin of your legs. It occurs when the veins under your thighs and calves which regulate blood circulation develop weakened walls. Aside from heredity, some hormonal issues like puberty, use of contraceptives, pregnancy, and menopause increase the risk of developing varicose veins.

Based on the factors mentioned, it’s pretty obvious why women are likely to be the victims of this culprit. Aside from the physical pain, varicose veins also affect the person’s self-esteem and self-confidence.

Doctors are always right in treating ailments like these. However, it’s undeniable that doctors are also more expensive. Before seeking professional help, you may first try to roam around your kitchen and see if the six ingredients mentioned below are present.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar

They say that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV), a type of vinegar made from cider or apple, justifies this claim. ACV is a multi-purpose ingredient that is proven to cure some diseases including varicose veins. ACV helps improve blood flow and circulation and thus, reduce the pain, swelling, and heaviness of the veins.

Soak a cloth or gauze in Apple Cider Vinegar and place it over the affected area for 20-30 minutes. You may also massage an undiluted Apple Cider Vinegar gently on the legs starting from the bottom and moving upwards. Make it a daily ritual before going to bed and again in the morning then follow the remedy for a few months to reduce the size of your varicose veins. For better results, add two teaspoons of ACV in a glass of water and drink this twice a day.

2. Cabbage Poultice

Cabbage Poultice

Aside from being a vital ingredient in making our all-time favorite coleslaw, cabbages are also proven to have impressive healing powers. Sprouts are rich in Sulfur, Potassium, Vitamin K, and Vitamin U that treat ulcers and infections caused by varicose veins. Its high sulfur content helps destroy ferments in the blood and reduces the pain and swelling of the area.

To create the poultice, finely chop the cabbage leaves and add sufficient amount of water to make a paste. Apply the mixture on your affected skin area and wrap a linen cloth around the body part. Leave this for a couple of hours before washing it off. Do the procedure twice to thrice a day.

Another way of making use of cabbage is by applying fresh slices directly on the affected area then bind them with a thin and elastic piece of fabric. Let the cabbage dry up before removing it. Replace the dried cabbage with a fresh one if necessary. You may also try leaving the cabbage on varicose veins overnight for better results.

3. Grape Seed Extract

Grape Seed Extract

Eating grapes is like hitting two birds with one stone – they are both healthy and delicious, especially when they are seedless. However, the seeds we often disregard are also packed with a bounty of nutrients like Vitamin E, Flavonoids, Linoleic Acid, and Oligomeric Proanthocyanidin Complexes or OPCs, which can help get rid of varicose veins. The OPCs strengthen the connective tissue structure of the blood vessels which then reduces the inflammation. They also increase the elasticity of capillary walls, making them more resistant to hemorrhages and infection.

Ditch seedless grapes and choose the ones with a couple of seeds then chew them for their extract. If you don’t like the bittersweet idea, you may also pound these seeds and mix their powder form with your juices and soups. Aside from eating the grape seed extract, you can buy grape seed oil and massage it on the area.

4. Olive Oil

Olive Oil

With its large number of benefits, the olive oil can be considered as one of the best gifts nature has given the man. One of its functions is increasing the blood circulation through the veins which are essential in curing varicose veins. With proper application, the olive oil can reduce inflammation and pain and repair injured capillaries and blood vessels.

Slightly warm a mixture of the equal amounts of olive oil and vitamin E oil. Massage the veins using the hot mixture of organic compounds for several minutes. It is recommended to repeat the procedure twice a day for one to two months.

5. Garlic

Aside from spicing up your dishes, Garlic is also considered as an old herbal remedy used to treat a broad range of health problems. Raw garlic and garlic oil are both effective in curing varicose veins by reducing inflammation. These also help in improving the blood circulation and breaking up harmful toxins in the blood vessels.

Slice at least six garlic cloves and put them in a clean jar. Extract the juice from three oranges and put it in the pot then add two tablespoons of olive oil. After leaving the mixture sit for 12 hours, shake the jar and put a few drops of solution on your fingers. Massage the inflamed veins gently for 15 minutes. Wrap the area with a cloth and let it rest overnight. Repeat daily. Aside from rubbing, adding raw garlic in your diet will also help improve the condition of your veins.

6. Cayenne Pepper

Another miracle treatment for spider veins and varicose veins is Cayenne Pepper. This sizzling red hot chili pepper is very rich in Vitamin C, Bioflavonoids, and Capsaicin, which are useful for improving blood circulation throughout the body. It also helps in easing the pain of swollen veins and decreasing blood clots.

Add one teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper powder to a cup of hot water. Stir it well and consume the solution three times a day for one to two months. You can also rub the mixture of crushed cayenne pepper pods and aloe vera on the spider veins for better results.
