Kapil Dev is a former Indian cricketer. He captained the Indian team who the 1983 Cricket World Cup. His named was included in the Wisden as the Indian Cricket of the Century in 2002. The Kapil Dev was one of the greatest all-rounders of all time. He was also taking the post of coach of national Indian cricket team for ten months. Kapil Dev was a right-arm pace bowler with the grace-full action and outswinger. He was the main strike bowler for the most of his career. He was also developing the fine inswinging yorker. He used these Yorkers against the tail-enders very effusively. He was also a fine batsman at his career. He was a natural striker of the ball. He can hook and drive effectively. He played very good innings in his career when Indian team was in difficult situation.
The world cup was the best thing for cricket India. As an Indian captain, he played a defining role in the country success. His nickname was “the Haryana Hurricane”. Due to his representing the Haryana cricket team in domestic cricket. He retired from cricket holding the record of most taking wickets in the test cricket in the test match which was broken in 2000 by Courtney Walsh. He was also an Indian highest wicket taker bowler in both test and ODI. He is an only player who scored more than 5000 runs and took 434 wickets in the test. From this performance, he became one of the greatest all-rounders. He was included in the ICC Hall of Fame in 2010.

Kapil Dev was born in Chandigarh on 6 January 1959. His parents had migrated from Rawalpindi during the Partition of India. First, he was the student of the D.A.S and then joined the Desh Prem Azad. He was also the student of St. Edward’s School, Shimla.
Kapil Dev was starting play domestic cricket for Haryana in November 1975.
He debuted against Punjab and took six wickets haul, restricting Punjab to 68 runs. Kapil finishes the first season with 12 wickets in 3 matches. Kapil Dev took eight wickets for 36 runs against the Jammu & Kashmir in the 1976-77 in the opener game of the season. In this season he took 23 wickets in 4 matches. For this performance, Kapil selected for the Irani Trophy, Duleep Trophy.
Kapil Dev starts his career in the national spotlight with trademark performance in the finals of the Duleep Trophy taking a first innings haul of 7 for 65 runs in 24 overs. In the season of 1979-80, Kapil scored maiden Test century against Dehli. He made his career best score 193.
In the 1990-91 Rajni season, Haryana reached the semi-final with the help of the bowling performance Chetan Sharma and batting performance of the Amarjit Kaypee. In the semi-final, Kapil Dev scored 141 and took five wickets. As the result, Haryana won that match against Bengal.

In the final of the season was memorable for the cricket lovers. In the first innings, Haryana scored 522 and restricted Bombay to 410 runs. In the second innings, Haryana scored 252 and set the target of 355 runs for Bombay. The Vengsarkar (139) and Tendulkar (94) fought back for Bombay team. After the Tendulkar dismissal, Haryana took the game away from the Bombay. Haryana took six wickets for 102 runs and won the game by 3 runs. Kapil won his median and only Ranji Trophy.
Early Years (1978-1982)
Kapil made his Test debut against the harsh rivals Pakistan in Faisalabad on 16 October 1978. His performance of this series was not the standout, but his speed and bounce were excellent. His bouncers were struck many occasions on the helmet of the Pakistani batsmen. He dismisses the Sadiq Mohammad with his trademark outswinger. He showed his all-rounder performance in the 3rd test match of the series when he scored India’s fast half-century off 33 balls and two sixes although India had lost the match and series too with 2-0.
After that, he scored 126 runs off 124 balls against West Indies at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. He was debuting in ODI against Pakistan. But India and Kapil both had the poor campaign at the 1979 Cricket World Cup.
Indian tour to Australia in 1980-81 was very familiar with India and Kapil Dev. In this series, India was 1-0 down, and they were defending the 143 runs in the match. Kapil ruled out due to injury on the 4th day of the test match. Australia finished the 4th day with 18/3. Kapil wanted to play last day of the test match. He willed himself to play the final day with pain-killer injections and removed the dangerous middle order batting line up. Kapil fish this match with the bowling performance of 16.4-4-28-5. During the Australian tour, he scored his first fifty in ODI against New Zealand.
In 1981-82 Kapil was ready for the home test series against England. In the first test match, India won the match with the help of the Kapil 5 wickets. In this series, Kapil scored 318 runs (Average: 53, 1 century, 1 fifty) and took 22 wickets (2 5-wicket hauls) and got Man of the Series award.
Later on facing Sri Lanka 1st time in the cricket and took 5 wickets in the match. In the following series against the Pakistan Kapil perform well. He took 20 wickets on the show. After that tour, Kapil was made the Captain of Indian Cricket team in place of Sunil.

1983 World Cup Performance
Kapil was entered in the world cup with their regular individual record with (Average: 21) and 34 wickets. India inflicted the West Indies First-ever defeat in the world cup. Following the win over Zimbabwe, India had lost their next two matches against the West Indies and Australia. Now India needed to win over Zimbabwe and Australia.
First India faces the Zimbabwe at Nevil Ground, on 18 June under overcast conditions. India won the toss and elected bat first. At the score of 9 India has lost their 4 batsmen. And 5th batsmen go out on the score of 17. After that Kapil give the stand out performance in this match. He scored 126 runs for the 9th wicket unbeaten. He finished not out with 175 runs off 138 balls. India won that match by 31 runs. India reached the semi-final of the World Cup after the win over Australia.
In the semi-final, India faced the England. Kapil takes 3 wickets at the end and limited England to 213 runs.
The team reached to final after scoring 214 in the semi-final. The final was against the West Indies who watched for their World Cup hat-trick. In the final West Indies restricted the India on 183 runs. West Indies had a great chance to won the World Cup but the whole team out on the score of 140. Kapil had upset West Indies and first World Cup.
